Your MOVEMBER style guide
It’s that time of year again, and no, we don’t mean summer. Movember starts in just a few days, so it’s time to dig out that razor to ready your top lip for the mo growing season.
Movember has been an annual event since 2003, but just in case you’ve been living under a rock, let's run through the origins. In short, Movember is a global movement dedicated to raising awareness for men’s health issues. By 2030, Movember aims to:
- Reduce the rate of male suicides by 25%
- Halve the number of deaths from prostate and testicular cancer.
- Halve the number of men suffering serious physical and mental side effects from the treatment of prostate or testicular cancer.
To achieve this, every November, men around the world commit to growing mustaches to spark conversations about prostate and testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. By growing a mustache, you can show solidarity and encourage others to take action for these important causes.

Lets begin with choosing your mo style
Firstly, if you haven’t already, get yourself registered for Movember here.
Now on to the all-important style choice. Whether you’re aiming for a clean classic or something a little more unique, there are loads of styles to choose from. Here are 6 of our faves for some mo-spiration.
The Walrus Thick, bushy with full lip coverage. Sported by many men across history including Mark Twain and Jamie Hyneman. |
The Pencil Thin and neatly clipped to sit above the top lip, and looks as if it has been drawn by a pencil. It’s a classic style seen on famous faces like Errol Flynn and Clark Gable. |
The Fu Manchu A full, straight moustache with long tendrils extending over clean-shaven lips and chin and past the jawline. Named after the fictional Fu Manchu played by Christopher Lee. |
The Horseshoe A full moustache shaved to leave a pipe of hair vertically down the sides of the mouth. Famously worn by Hulk Hogan, John Lennon and Axl Rose. |
English Moustache A long and thin moustache grown long and waxed at the ends to make it sit out horizontally on each side. No notable famous faces but wouldn’t look out of place on a dapper gentlemen of the 1800s. |
The Dali Moustache As described by Salvador Dali himself this moustache is “very pointed, very aggressive”. It is more than just a moustache, it’s a statement. |
Take Care of That Grooming Routine
A well-maintained moustache will earn you compliments and spread awareness for Movember with style. Here’s what you need:
- Trim Regularly: Use a small comb and a pair of grooming scissors or an electric trimmer to keep it even and neat. Our Beardbrand grooming scissors will be back in stock next week so if you’re after a paid, register for a back in stock alert here.
- Shave the Surrounding Area: Focus on your upper lip, so your moustache stands out. Our Double Edge Safety Razor will help you get a close shave every time.
- Exfoliate: Keep your skin healthy by removing dead skin cells. A weekly exfoliation routine can promote hair growth and give you a smoother base.
- Moisturise & Condition: Use a quality beard oil to keep your moustache soft and nourished, preventing itching and flakiness.
- Perfect your style: Help to tame those hairs by using a quality moustache wax. We have soft waxes and super hard ones, so make sure you read the product description to ensure you get the right level of hold.
Keep the Men’s Health Conversation Going and Get Involved
Lastly, remember that Movember is a month for men’s health advocacy and your moustache is the perfect conversation starter. Use it as an opportunity to share why you’re growing it. Spread the word about men’s health, share the importance of regular check-ups, and encourage others to donate to the Movember Foundation.
If you can’t grow a mo, there are other ways you can get involved.
- Host a fundraising event at work
- Move for Mental Health by walking 60km for the 60 men lost to suicide each hour worldwide.
- Mo your own way by choosing a fun way to raise funds and raise awareness.
- Reach out to the men around you and encourage others to do the same, the more we normalise talking about men’s health the easier it will become!
Until next time, keep on bearding!
