6 tips to help with patchy growth

6 tips to help with patchy growth

If you’re struggling with patchy growth, you’re not alone!  We get emails all the time from guys who struggle with areas of growth.  Our biggest piece of advice – don’t give up. There are heaps of ways you can improve the appearance of a patchy beard and work towards the full, luscious facial hair you desire. Here are 6 tips to help with your journey.

1. Embrace Patience and Let It Grow

A common mistake is to give up too early.  We get it – no one wants a patchy beard! But keep in mind that it takes time for your beard to fully grow in and hairs can grow at different rates.  It’s totally normal for patches to appear – so be patient and let it grow for at least 4-6 weeks before you reach for those trimming scissors.  This will give your facial hair a chance to fill in and allow you to see your beard’s natural growth pattern.

During this initial growth phase, resist the urge to trim your beard. Allowing it to grow freely will give you a better idea of how dense and even your beard can become. It may surprise you how well it fills in over time.

2. Keep Your Beard Trimmed and Styled

Once you’ve made it through stage 1, trimming becomes important.  It will help it to appear fuller and more even.

Regular trimming allows you to maintain a clean and tidy appearance, even if you have patches. Focus on defining your cheek lines and neckline, as these areas can create a strong frame for your beard and draw attention away from sparse areas.

You can also experiment with different beard styles that suit your growth pattern. For example, a shorter beard style or a goatee can be more flattering if your patches are mostly around your cheeks. The key is to find a style that works with your natural growth rather than against it.

3. Use Beard Growth Products

Quality beard oils and balms are excellent for managing and improving the appearance of a patchy beard. These products not only moisturise and condition your beard but also the skin underneath. This helps reduce dryness and flakiness, making your beard look thicker and healthier.

Our BEARDED. Beard Oils contain argan oil, jojoba oil, vitamin E and other natural ingredients that help strengthen your hair and reduce breakage, which is especially useful for patchy areas. Regular application can also help soften your beard and promote even growth.

Skin plays a huge part in promoting beard growth so for added skin stimulation, pair one of our beard oils with our Beard Derma Roller. Our derma roller contains hundreds of tiny titanium needles that penetrate the skin – this kick-starts the skin’s natural repair process and stimulates dormant hair follicles.

4. Try Natural Collagen

If your beard growth is particularly slow or sparse, consider trying a premium collagen.  Sure, there are other products on the market that purport to aid growth, but we’ve always erred on the side of caution here and would only recommend products we know are good for improving skin and hair growth – like collagen.

Here are some benefits of taking collagen daily:

  • Supports hair growth, density and texture
  • Improves scalp and follicle health
  • Skin Hydration (better skin means less Beardruff!)
  • Elevated Testosterone and balance hormones
  • Boosts Metabolism and Increase Energy Levels
  • Muscle Recovery

Strand Pure Marine Collagen is made from 100% Pure Hydrolyzed Marine Collagen and can be mixed into hot and cold drinks to fit seamlessly into your daily routine!

5. Maintain a Healthy Diet and Lifestyle

Your beard’s health is often a reflection of your overall health. A balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals can promote healthier hair growth. Nutrients like biotin, vitamin E, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids are particularly beneficial for hair and skin health.

Incorporate foods like eggs, nuts, leafy greens, and fish into your diet to support healthy hair growth. Staying hydrated and getting regular exercise can also improve circulation. Remember, a healthy body often leads to healthier, fuller hair growth.

6. Accept and Work with What You Have

At the end of the day, uncontrollable factors such as genetics and age can play a significant role in how your beard grows. Not everyone is destined to have a thick, full beard, and that’s okay. The key is to work with what you have and embrace your natural growth pattern. Whether that means sporting a shorter style, a goatee, or even opting for a clean-shaven look, confidence is what truly makes a style work.
