How To Stop Winter Ruining Your Beard

How To Stop Winter Ruining Your Beard

In case you hadn’t noticed, your beard hates winter.

(And winter isn’t fond of your beard either.)

There are a few reasons winter and your beard aren’t mates — such as humidity in the air, or rather (the lack of it), and freezing cold winds.

Simply put, your skin is a lot drier during the winter months, which is going to cause the skin on your face feeling a lot itchier and a lot drier. And if that’s not bad enough, your beard hair is going to feel a lot more coarse and wiry.

But all is not lost – Give your beard (and the face attached to it) a belated holiday present by following these tips. And it all starts in the shower.

Turn down the hot tap

As much as we all love a hot shower in the colder months, water that hot strips away the skin’s natural oil and the moisture inside, leaving your skin drier as a result. So turn down the water temperature, fellas. Your beard will thank you.

Less shampoo is more

Yep, shampoo cleans the hair alright, but too much shampoo too often strips the oil your face naturally produces to keep the follicles lubricated. We recommend using our BEARDED. Wash which is a clean, natural and non-toxic product that protects the skin and hydrates the hair. Scotch Porter has a great Leave-In Beard Conditioner here.

Beard Oil is your best mate

Use a moisturiser, balm or oil every day. Using beard oil shortly after your shower will improve your beard's overall feel and also help tackle the humidity and keep the moisture in your beard. Beard oil is simply the best weapon against fighting environmental elements.

Visit your ‘main man’ barber

Going to your local barber to tidy up your beard is something you should be doing if you’re not confident in doing it yourself, especially during winter. Once a beard hair splits, the damage is done. Leaving it will result in splitting down to the follicle and potentially lead to it falling out. And besides, a good trim keeps your beard looking sharp.

Look after your skin from the inside out:

Skin is the human body's largest organ. So it’s important that you are looking after it from the inside out. We recommend adding collagen to your diet. STRAND collagen is made from 100% Pure Hydrolysed Marine Collagen, this clean, non-GMO scientifically backed odourless power can be added to both hot or cold drinks.
